The bottom was drilled at some point in its long history to make into a lamp. The hole has been filled and professionally restored. There are no chips, cracks, or hairlines on the stein. For anyone collecting German beer steins or interested in German steins, I would highly recommend joining SCI, as you will receive publications and can communicate with members from all over the world about steins. There are also past publications online, where you can research steins through a number of scholarly articles.
