Antique German Porcelain Beer Stein Occupational Shoemaker w/Lithophane c. Description: This beer stein belongs to the "occupational" family of German beer vessels. It was made for a butcher who was very proud of his occupation. The steins of this sort were quite expensive at the time and could be compared with the regimental or reservisten family of collectible antique beer steins. The stein was made around 1880 - 1890 of hard porcelain with hand-painted over a transfer outline art and ornate pewter lid. It is decorated with scenes of the shoemakers' work. The inscription on top reads. Eher soll die Welt verderben als vor Durst ein Schuhmacher sterben! " - " The world should come to an end before a shoemaker will die of thirst! The words on the ribbon inside the main picture say. Hoch lebe das edle Handwerke der Schohmacher! " - "Long live the noble handwork of shoemaker! The The stein has a lithophane - a picture in the bottom that you can only see through the light.

It shows a kissing couple. The stein is in excellent flawless condition - a collector's dream. There is no chips, cracks or even usual lithophane crazing. The stein is 9.5 tall to the top of the finial, 0.5L capacity.
