Antique German Character Beer Stein Pig w/Deck of Cards by R. Description: This very unusual German beer stein belongs to the family of character steins - steins made in a shape of an object or person. They are also called "figural". This particular one is made in a shape of a pig sitting on a pedestal with a deck of playing cards. Pig's head forms the lid.

Traditionally, a pig is a symbol of luck. Many bowling steins, for instance, show inscription: " Vie Schwein, viel gluck" - "Many pigs, much luck".

This particular stein was made in several varieties, featuring shooting targets, bowling, billiards and playing cards. The inscription on front reads: Zum Wohl! The mark on the bottom was in use from 1882 till 1908. Judging by the thumblift, this particular stein was made in around 1890s.

Made of sylicon-glazed hard pottery with insized, relief and etched decoration. The model number is 1116.

It is in excellent flawless condition with only minimal age-related wear. It is 9.5 tall, 0.5L capacity. Get images that make Supersized seem small.
