Description: This very interesting German beer stein belongs to the family of character steins - steins made in a shape of an object or person. They are also called "figural". This particular one is made in a shape of a smiling monk wearing his robe. His head forms the lid.Made of the very traditional saltglazed stoneware with black and magenta glazes and with pewter mounts. Manufactured by Marzi and Remy around 1880 - 1890s. (The same model served as the body for the nun stein).
