Description: This amazing beer stein was manufactured in late 1890s - early 1900s by Matthias Girmscheid - one of the most famous beer stein manufacturers of the "Golden Era" of German beer stein production. It belongs to the "character" stein family - beer steins made in form of things or persons. This is probably the most collectible category of antique beer steins. The stein is made in the form of a set of bowling pins with stylized wooden texture.

Bowling was one of the most favorite sports in Germany - there are many beer steins dedicated to the theme. This one I think is most interesting one. The inscription on the bottom reads: Lieb und Seele macht sie frei, lustig ist die Kegelei. Love and soul sets you free, bowling is a happy sport.

There is no manufcturers mark, only the model number 1139, but the stein is well-known to the stein collectors and attributed to Girmscheid. The stein is in absolute perfect condition. It has no damage or repairs. It is 9 tall, 0.5L capacity.
