Antique German Beer Stein Playing Cards by Merkelbach and Wick c. This beautiful stein was produced by the company of Merkelbach and Wick over 100 years ago. The exceptionally crafted etched technique decoration is dedicated to the playing cards. French playing cards where suits are diamonds, hearts, clubs, and spades - most common in the US.

There were also German suits - bells, hearts, leaves, and acorns. The stein has an unusual square form and shows the suits on the sides. M&W is a famous Westerwald firm from Grenzhausen in the Westerwald region of Germany that operated from 1872 till 1921.

The stein is in excellent condition - there is some minimal age-related wear but no damage or repairs whatsoever. The lid is sitting tight.
