The stein was nicely painted with colorful decorations in green, yellow, blue and magenta colors. Nice pewter lid with hollow ball and sturdy five-ring close hinge.
Beautiful piece of beer drinking culture about 200 years old. The stein is in poor shape - there are some glaze losses, few harlines and a patch on the bottom made some long time ago. The pewter is in a good shape with only minor split not visible from the outside. I have find a very similar stein in some old catalog - looks like it was made by the same decorator at the same time.
Still a very nice and beautiful example of early German drinking vessels. The stein is 9.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1 L capacity. Condition: Poor - see description.Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing.
