Antique Large Porcelain German Hand Painted Gallant Scene Beer Stein Meissen c. Description: Beautiful highly decorated porcelain beer stein made by the Meissen factory - the first European porcelain production plant that started in 1706. Overall - a fantastically decorated piece - a one of a kind treasure. Large and massive "Bierkrug" with a cylindrical body , elegant lid and a strawberry for the finial.
Marvelous hand-painted very detailed scenes from the classical baroque period of the early 1700s in the manner of Antoine Watteau. Beautiful gallant courteous painting of a cavalier and a dame with another smaller painting on the lid. The Meissen factory created several models of similar beer steins in 1850s -- 1880s.
Th ey are featured in G ary Kirsner's "The Beer Stein Book". I have provided a scan from the book for the reference. The pictured scene is different since it was hand-painted, but the mold, the mounts, the decorations are the same. The mark has faded but you can still see the remaining traces. The mounts are made of gilt brass. The stein is in excellent flawless condition, there is some wear to the gold on the handle, but no damage, lines or repairs of any kind.
It stays impressively 7 tall to the top of the finial , 1 L capacity. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing.
