Antique German Theresienthal Enameled Green Glass Beer Stein w/Prunts c. Description: This beautiful antique beer stein was made of blown glass in around the late 1880s.The glass is colored in beautiful brownish-green, a shape is the traditional tapered form with pedestal. It is decorated with prunts and an enameled picture of a man pouring beer from a large keg. The inscription reads: Das Waßer ist zu jeder Seit die beste aller Gottesgaben. Mich aber lehrt Bescheidenheit Man muß nicht stets vom Besten haben. Water is by any measure the best of all of God's gifts.
However, a lesson I have learned is that one must not always (need to) have the best. (Translation by Roy De Selms) The prunts are applied decorative rosettes made of the same glass. It was made by the most famous Theresiental glass factory. The beaded prunts and the specific bottle-green/brownish color are the distinctive features of this factory's production. The Theresienthal factory was established in 1836 in the town of Zwiesel in Bavaria. Another very common feature of the factory was enameled decorations of various kinds. The lid is made of heavy cast pewter - a nice dome-type lid typical for 1880 with closed type 5-ring hinge. The lid has a cast mark on the inside - G. The company started in 1882 and closed in 1917 after Josef Thannhauser death. Please note - the stein is 100 original from the period! I guarantee my description and dating.
It is in excellent condition - there are some small bubbles in the glass see pics. Due to the manual glass-blowing process.
There is no damage or repair. The stein is 8.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Get images that make Supersized seem small.
