Antique German Bowling Club Beer Stein ca. Here is a great antique German beer stein and a piece of bowling history.

Dated on the pewter lid 1909 from the Kegelklub, Bremen, Germany. The sport of bowling started almost 5000 years ago in Egypt. In Germany, bowling began around 300BC. Bowling was the most popular sport for every day workers. They played Nine Pin, also called "Kegel".

That German "Kegel" game came to America. Nine-Pin became so poular in the US with workers that it was banned in the 1920's by some States as immoral and outlawed! The glass is hand blown, with a enamel hand painted bowling motif. Has a massive glass base and handle with a five ring pewter lid. I could not get a great picture of the lid and it's inscription as the light kept reflecting back into the camera. Beer drinking and bowling, what a novel idea! Hope this great stein fines a happy home. The item "Antique German Beer Stein with pewter lid and ca. 1909" is in sale since Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
