Antique German Beer Stein Shooting Fest Munchen by O. Description: This beautiful antique German beer stein was made by Marzi and Remy - one of the biggest and most famous names in German beer stein manufacturing. It is made of saltglazed stoneware with enameled decorations.
The stein is dedicated to the 18th all-German Shooting Fest. The sports of shooting was the favorite sports and festivity event in old Germany. The Bundesschiessen Fest was the major event for the sports.It took place from 1864 until 1965 mostly once in three years, and attracted thousands of shooters and tens and tens thousands of viewers. The front of the stein shows a beautiful stylised picture of men shooting rifles. The men wear signs of different German lands - the one on the right is from Switzerland. They are tied together with band of the official colors of Germany and showing Munich Child for the buckle - the symbol of the city of Munich with the motto of the Fest: "Fur Einigkeit und Freiheit" - For unity and freedom! The picture is signed by Otto Ludwig Naegele - a prominent German grapic designer, illustrator and painter (1880 - 1952). This was the official beer stein of the Festival. The lid is decorated with Coat-of-Arms of the famous Munich Breweries - Hofbrau, Paulanerbrau, Lowenbrau, Augustinerbrau, Burgerbrau, etc. The stein is in excellent flawless condition. It was issued in two sizes - 0.5 L and 1 L. This stein is 1L - much more rare than the half-liter version.It is 8.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1L capacity.
