The stein is made in "etched" technique - the contours of the drawing look like they are engraved - thus creating a very attractive decoration.

The etched technique is usually assosiated with Mettlach steins but there were some other manufacturers that used this technology. It was very labor-intensive and expensive but produced excellent results. But this is a well-known model of the firm of Matthias Grimscheid - a famous Westerwald firm from Grenzhausen, Germany. The decoration panel shows a little girl getting in a boat with the help of her mother for a boat ride on a small mountain river. The ladys are dressed in a traditional Tyrolean folk outfits. The lid is inlaid with an etched ceramic insert showing a gnome with a beer stein and a Coat of Arms featuring a large beer pitcher. The stein is in excellent condition - there is some minimal age-related wear but no damage or repairs whatsoever.
