Antique Early German Glass Beer Stein - Wheel Engraved Wedding circa 1820s. Description: This beautiful and very old beer stein was made of blown glass in about 1820s. The stein is decorated with copper wheel-engraved ornaments.Very nice and elegant engravings of a large vase or centerpiece surrounded floral elements. Nice pewter lid in perfect condition with hollow ball thumblift typical for late Biedermeier period of 1820s - 1830s. Festel and number 69 engraved on the lid. Pontil mark on the bottom and air bubbles in the base - a special decorative element. The large engraved center vase symbolize wealth and fertility - it indicates the stein might be a wedding gift. Beer steins were quite expensive at the time and made excellent wedding gifts.
The stein is in excellent condition. The only flaw is a missing bottom non-functional small piece of a handle (see pics). It was most likely kept in closed compartment and rarely used. The pewter is in perfect shape and the lid is sitting tight. I guarantee my description and dating.
