More specifically, this stein was attributed to Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia. The stein was made around the early - 1800s. I have several faience pieces made in Erfurt factory for sale - please check my auctions. Made of faience with very colorful hand-painted decorations that traditionally are associated with Tueringen factories.
The decorations show a running stag being pursued by a hunting dog. Very nice stylized painting of the factory artist. Nice pewter lid with a large hollow ball for the thumblift. The lid is in excellent condition. It is marked with the pewterer's mark that is dated 1807 - that was the date of the pewterer's house establishment, but the stein was made somewhat very close to this date. The stein was professionally restored - I don't know the depth of restoration, but it was done very well - it is hard to tell that it was restored. Don't miss a chance to own a beer stein that is about 240 years old beautifully painted - quite a rare occasion! It is 10.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1L capacity.
